At the end of the round, all of the bets are gathered into a central pot. Depending on the rules of the game, each player can bet as little as a single chip, or as much as the entire amount of the pot.
It is common to make several bets per round of play. These bets are typically based on the value of the cards that each player has. Some variants of the game include the “straddle,” which is an optional bet made before the cards are dealt. Another variant, the “stop and go,” refers to a line in the game that a player can cross at will, without revealing his or her cards.
